John Carroll Catholic High School (JCCHS) in Birmingham, AL is seeking a dance professional capable of leading the nationally ranked Cavalette Dance Program. John Carroll’s Dance Program encompasses three teams: Varsity, Junior Varsity and Middle School. The Head Coach will instruct our athletes and guide our program while upholding the standard set forth in this Catholic, Christian environment.
The ideal candidate would be experienced in teaching Technique, Ballet, Gymnastics, Hip Hop and Jazz and be proficient in conditioning. While these skills are desirable, we are willing to outsource some of them for the right candidate. The Head Coach will be responsible for coordinating the field program schedules as well as competition practice and development. An ability to communicate well with dance members, families and other coaches is a must.
This is a ten-month position requiring weekday afternoon rehearsals in preparation for the Friday night football field show, pep rallies and the competitive UDA season. The team is expected to perform at all home Varsity Basketball games and the coach is responsible for coordinating spring tryouts and summer team camp/convention.
The Dance Team Head Coach reports to the Athletic Director on various aspects of managing the team including, but not limited to, practice times and locations, student eligibility, game performance schedules, and any other matters that affect scheduled dance performances.
Candidates should have instructor experience in multiple dance styles such as ballet, jazz, hip hop, demonstrate compassion and concern for the academic and physical well-being of their dancers and be able to instruct and strengthen individual dancers’ abilities through constructive teaching skills and positive reinforcement. He or She should be well versed in UDA rules and regulations. A Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, with preference given to those with a degree in Dance or Performing Arts.
Candidates must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and qualify under the Diocesan insurance carrier when driving a school vehicle. The completion and maintenance of the Diocesan Youth Protection Program is required. If a candidate is selected for an interview, three references will be required.
